Who can earn the CAL certification?

Any active AEI member who completes the required CAL training courses and submits the CAL exam is eligible to earn the certification.

Is CAE or CAA required before pursuing CAL?

No. CAE and CAA are not required to pursue the CAL certification. However, prior completion of CAE or CAA is strongly recommended, especially for leaders who want deeper grounding in agentic engineering and architecture before operating at the enterprise level.

How do I register for the CAL exam?

What is the format of the CAL exam?

The exam consists of scenario-based leadership and transformation prompts. There are no multiple-choice questions. The exam evaluates executive judgment, governance design, operating models, and decision-making under real enterprise constraints.

How long do I have to complete the exam?

You must submit your completed answer sheet within 72 hours (3 days) of receiving the exam package. Late submissions are declined and not evaluated.

What happens if I miss the submission deadline?

If you miss the 72-hour submission window, your submission will be declined. You may request a new exam package by paying a $99 exam processing fee, which includes a new set of exam questions.

What are the pass and fail outcomes?

If you pass, you receive a digital certificate and inclusion in the AEI Certified Directory.
If you do not pass, you may retake the exam after 1 month. If you do not pass a second attempt, you must wait 3 months and retake the exam with full payment again.

How long is the CAL certification valid?

All AEI certifications are valid for 2 years, reflecting the rapid evolution of agentic systems.

How do I renew my certification?

You may renew by retaking the updated CAL exam or by completing the most recent version of the top-level course associated with the CAL certification tier.
