Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) — AEI Certifications

What certifications does AEI offer?

The Agentic Engineering Institute (AEI) offers three professional certifications aligned to different levels of responsibility in agentic systems:

  • CAE — Certified Agentic Engineer™ (engineering and implementation)

  • CAA — Certified Agentic Architect™ (system and enterprise architecture)

  • CAL — Certified Agentic Leader™ (leadership, transformation, and scaling)

Each certification validates real-world capability within the Agentic Engineering discipline.

Who can earn an AEI certification?

AEI certifications are open to both members and non-members.

However, joining AEI is highly recommended. AEI members receive:

  • 50% savings on certification programs

  • Full access to the AEBOP™ (Agentic Engineering Body of Practices) standard

  • Access to the global AEI professional community, including certification preparation channels

For most candidates, AEI membership pays for itself immediately.

Do I need prior AI or industry experience to become certified?

No formal industry experience is required.

Agentic Engineering™ is an emerging discipline, and certification is based on demonstrated mastery through structured training and scenario-based assessment, not tenure.

That said, certification levels are aligned to professional responsibility:

  • CAE™ is best suited for practitioners with hands-on engineering experience.

  • CAA™ assumes architectural decision-making exposure.

  • CAL™ is designed for leaders responsible for AI strategy and governance.

Candidates without prior experience may still pursue certification, but practical context significantly strengthens exam performance.

Certification validates applied capability, not years in role.

Is AEI Certification vendor-neutral?

Yes. AEI Certification is aligned to the Agentic Engineering™ discipline and the AEBOP™ standard — not to any specific vendor, model, or platform.

It validates applied engineering, architectural, and governance capability across the Agentic Stack, regardless of tooling choices.

This ensures your credential remains relevant as technologies evolve.

How long does the certification process take?

Most candidates complete the required coursework and exam within 10–16 weeks, depending on pace.

Certification is designed to be rigorous yet achievable alongside professional responsibilities.

What are the pass and fail outcomes?

  • If you pass:

    • Digital certificate

    • Listing in the AEI Certified Directory

  • If you do not pass:

    • You may retake the exam after 1 month

    • If you do not pass a second attempt, you must wait 3 months and retake the exam with full exam payment ($499) again

What are the certification fees?

Each AEI certification program (CAE, CAA, or CAL) is priced as follows:

  • Non-members: $2,999

  • AEI members: $1,499 (50% savings)

The certification fee covers the complete certification program, including:

  • Access to all required training courses for the selected certification

  • The scenario-based certification exam

  • Exam evaluation and certification processing

  • Issuance of the digital certificate

  • Listing in the AEI Certified Directory

Any optional costs—such as exam re-issuance fees due to missed deadlines or retake policies—are not included in the base certification fee.

AEI membership is strongly recommended, as it provides immediate cost savings on certification and additional benefits such as access to the AEBOP™ standard and the global AEI professional community.

What are the training course requirements for each certification?

Each AEI certification requires completion of 12 training courses before taking the exam.

  • CAE — Certified Agentic Engineer™
12 required courses across AEBOP Tier 0, Tier 1, and Tier 2

  • CAA — Certified Agentic Architect™
12+ required courses across AEBOP Tier 0 through Tier 4, including all system design and architecture courses

  • CAL — Certified Agentic Leader™
12 required courses across AEBOP Tier 0 through Tier 5, including all leadership and scaling courses

Course completion is verified prior to exam issuance.

How do I register for an AEI certification exam?

Once you complete the required courses for your certification, you can register by emailing certificate@agenticengineeringinstitute.com.

You’ll receive the exam instructions and submission guidelines directly from the AEI Certification Team.

Are the certifications sequential? Do I need CAE before CAA or CAL?

No certification is strictly required before another.

However, AEI strongly recommends the following progression:

  • CAE → CAA → CAL

CAE is recommended before CAA, and CAE or CAA is recommended before CAL, especially for candidates seeking deeper technical or architectural grounding.

What do the certification exams look like?

All AEI certification exams are scenario-based and designed around real-world work. There are no multiple-choice questions.

Depending on the certification, exam prompts may involve:

  • Engineering workflows and cognition loops (CAE)

  • End-to-end system architecture and enterprise integration (CAA)

  • Governance models, operating systems, and executive decisions (CAL)

Exams validate applied capability—not memorization.

How should I prepare for an AEI certification?

The recommended preparation path is to join AEI and follow a structured approach:

  1. Study the AEBOP™ standard to understand AEI’s official engineering, architecture, and leadership practices

  2. Complete the required training courses for your certification (CAE, CAA, or CAL)

  3. Participate in the AEI community, including certification preparation channels and peer discussions

Successful candidates consistently combine standards, training, and community engagement.

How long do I have to complete the exam?

Candidates must submit their completed answer sheet within 72 hours (3 days) of receiving the exam package.

Late submissions are declined and not evaluated.

What happens if I miss the exam submission deadline?

If you miss the 72-hour submission window, you may request a new exam package by paying a $99 exam processing fee. Each reissued exam includes a new set of scenario prompts.

How long are AEI certifications valid?

All certifications are valid for 2 years, reflecting the rapid evolution of agentic systems.

You may renew by:

  • Retaking the updated scenario-based exam, or

  • Completing the most recent version of the top-level course for your certification tier
